While pectolite was first described in Italy in 1828, the unique bright blue variety of Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, and was discovered in 1916. This unique stone pendant was crafted in the historic city of Jaipur, India. Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan, has been famous for it’s traditional jewelry for many centuries. Rajasthan is an area rich in deposits of precious and semi-precious stones. Jaipur bazaars abound with classic tribal jewelry and are renowned for their expert stone cutters and designers.
